The south's premier indie studio
find your sound

Since 2001, Clearwave Recording Studio has been a sanctuary for the creative spirit. Sessions at Clearwave are private, focused, and fun — the kind of sessions where ideas come to life and performances find their magic. This isn’t a museum, a recording school, or a studio in some weird guy’s house. It’s a freestanding converted warehouse tucked away in Decatur, Alabama — close to area bars, barbecue joints, and a place for bands to crash when the night runs long.
Inside, the studio feels lived-in and inspiring. You can feel the ghosts of great players who came before, chasing the same thing. It smells like tubes, tape, and exotic instruments — instruments that invite you to pick one up and see what happens.
The space is designed to record bands live for that raw, electrifying feel, or one instrument at a time when precision matters. The gear rests on a juicy analog foundation, supported by the digital tools one would expect from any modern studio.
Musicians flock to Clearwave for the vibe, the privacy, and most importantly — the sound.

Studios don't make music, people doStudios don't make music, people do.
Without the right person in the room, you’re shit out of luck—you need someone who gets it, someone who knows how to pull the best performance out of you, and someone who can steer the chaos without killing it. Magic needs to happen for your session to be successful, no matter where you record—and those are the types of sessions I'm built for.
I began my studio career engineering for legendary rock producer Johnny Sandlin. I was Johnny’s right-hand man for years, learning everything there is to know about making a great goddamn record. Since then, I’ve worked with some of the greatest musicians of all time. Brittany Howard, Jason Isbell, Gregg Allman, Dereck Truck, Billy Joe Shaver, Lamont Landers, Taylor Hunnicutt and a new generation is developing as you read this.
